Conservation of Former Deli Maatschappij Head Office
/ Jl. Tembakau Deli, Medan, North Sumatera
/ 2009-2013
/ Completed
Deli Maatschappij or Deli Company was the pioneer of plantation industry in East Sumatra, starting with plantation of world famous Deli Tobacco in the 1863. This is the company’s headquarter in Medan built in 1911, designed by architect D. Berendse. When it ended its function as head office of state-owned enterprise PTP IX, the new owner decided to conserve it through adaptive re-use approach as a private residence. This conservation project then began with documentation works carried out by Sumatra Heritage Trust. Soehardi Hartono as principal of HDS then continued with adaptive re-use plan and overseeing the restoration works.
