Hartono Design Syndicates
Hartono Design Syndicates is a multi-disciplinary design and consultancy firm in the fields of architecture, interior design, urban design and heritage conservation. Formerly known as Hartono Architects, it was founded in 2005 by Soehardi Hartono, a registered architect and professional member of Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI).
Our core design philosophy is based on our belief that our current built environment is the results of spatial transformations and interventions on natural environment through human’s ingenuity, creativity and resilience since many millennia ago. It was basically driven by human’s ever growing desire, ambition and needs to improve their quality of lives. As such, we, at HDS believe that our role in architecture and design is essentially dealing with the art of editing, updating and revising space to match our clients’ needs and dreams, ambitions and imaginations. We always pursue this creative endeavor with appreciation and respects towards the site’s or place’s local contexts, local climate, local identity, as well as local economic, social and cultural dimensions.
Our studio are essentially “space editors” who seek to strike a balance between these two seemingly contradictory notions so the designs we create and the consultancy services we deliver, will contribute to global efforts of reaching sustainable development goals, no matter how small our impacts might be. This is because we are convinced that sustainability is our common goal, our last chance to pass on a better built environment to our next generations.
In doing so, we believe in the power of collaboration. The power of design to contribute to a better world is so immensely powerful that it requires collaborative efforts of multiple and diverse design professionals, even of those outside the design fields. And we believe that the world needs more syndicates of design professionals as an alternative form of collaboration to deliver the design potential power to improve our current built environment.
At Hartono Design Syndicates (HDS), we are passionate about creating structures that not only meet the personal needs of our clients, but also designing a comfortable and healthy environment for the people who living, playing and working in and around them. We specialize in architecture, interior design, urban design, and heritage conservation. We work on design and planning projects that deal with multiple range of scale, from millimeter (interior design) to kilometers (urban design & masterplanning). Our interdisciplinary team of designers and engineers collaborates closely to ensure that every project is executed with the highest level of quality and innovation. We employ cutting-edge digital design and drafting software to achieve the highest efficiency and most effective ways to communicate our ideas and concepts. We devise appropriate design strategy and design methods that would yield the best design solutions.
